Study Centre - (Versão em português aqui)
The Museum develops, together with other institutions, studies about themes related to the Jewish immigration to Brazil and to the Holocaust. It joins events in schools and representative institutions of the social society, aiming to stimulate the reflection about issues such as Memory and Exclusion.
Immigration
To deepen the study of questions linked to the Jewish identity, the Museum has made researches about Oral history since 2002, in cooperation with (UFF) Fluminense Federal University and Estácio de Sá. The pile of documents includes the testimony of two groups: one, immigrants who once lived in the Leopoldina area of the city during 1930 and 1960; the other, German immigrants who arrived after 19454. The Jewish Museum represents, in Rio de Janeiro, the Historical Archive of Brazilian Judaism.
The Holocaust
The Museum provides a large amount of documents about the Holocaust, which includes testimony of survivors who settled down in Brazil.
Time Line
Since 1500, when Cabral's fleet counted Jews such as Master Johan (for Astronomic and Geographical researches) and Gaspar da Gama (interpreter and commander in chief for food supplies) to the present days, see the Time Line of the Jews in Brazil.
